Head Coach John Harbaugh Dedicates Vikings Win to General Odierno
WASHINGTON — Raymond T. Odierno, a retired Army general who commanded American and coalition forces in Iraq at the height of the war and capped a 39-year career by serving as the Army's chief of staff, has died, his family said Saturday. He was 67.
A 10-foot bronze statue was unveiled at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, honoring Buffalo Soldiers, who were part of six all-Black regiments. Soldiers from two regiments, the 9th and 10th Cavalry, served as riding instructors at the academy from 1907 to 1947. “These Soldiers embodied the West Point motto of Duty, Honor, Country and ideals of the Army Ethic,” said U.S. Military Academy 60th Superintendent Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams. “This monument will ensure that the legacy of Buffalo Soldiers is enduringly revered, honored and celebrated while serving as an inspiration for the next generations of cadets.”
