Bikini 25 I believe I was on that convoy in early January 1968. I was hitching a ride to An Khe where the 1st Cav was located. I was on the last truck which was the maintenance and repair vehicle for the convoy. I remember the convoy getting hit and tankers blowing up. The road was completly blocked and I never made it to An Khe. I don't have anymore info, but if you want to reach me you can e-mail me at walker5779@aol.com.

The Vietnam KIA guru Richard Coffelt has passed away. Richard was a Korean-era veteran from Hays, KS who started identifying full units for Vietnam KIAs in 1980. Guys, that was well before Al Gore invented the Internet. Most all Vietnam web sites owe their KIA lists to the work Richard inaugurated. We all owe him a huge debt of gratitude.

I am a linguist specializing in montagnard languages. I'm looking for the author(s)/issuing agency, etc. for two 4ID publications I got while at Camp Enari. The first is "Traditions, Customs, and Taboos of the Fighting Fourth Montagnard Neighbors...with picture tips." On the cover is a drawing of montagnard man carrying a back basket. The image is signed "Higgins" under his left foot. Some of the cartoons inside have the initials "AWH" next to them. The second is "English-Jarai Phrase Book" (3" x ~5") with 16 pages of Jarai phrases and words. Any information would be greatly appreciated. The Jarai communities both in Texas and North Carolina would benefit from these historic linguistic documents.

I am currently a PhD candidate at the Univ. of Utah writing a grammar of the Koho language, which is spoken in Lam Dong province where I was stationed 1967-8. There are several thousand montagnards in N. Carolina also.

Members and Friends of the 4th ID,

My father, Jessie Lee Garland, was a member of Company E of the 8th Infantry Regiment. He served in the Rhineland and central Europe campaigns. Below are a couple of newspaper columns I wrote earlier this year about his military service.
